Christmas 2011!

Well, I'm sad to say that Christmas 2011 is officially in the record books.  I admit that I'm feeling a little of the post-Christmas blues, just like I do every year.  I just can't help it!  Christmas is, without a doubt, my very favorite time of year.  Taking down all the decorations (which I do not do until after the New Year to avoid a year's worth of bad luck!), putting away all the gifts, and getting back into the mundane routine of life just leaves me feeling a little blah.  To be honest, this entire Christmas had me all out of whack because Nicholas and Greg were both under the weather and I ended up sick myself Christmas afternoon.  We had several late nights and extra stress because of it.  I've determined it's going to be our Christmas tradition from here until eternity to have Nicholas ailing from some sickness or another.  He was awake until well after midnight on Christmas Eve because of incessant coughing and vomiting.  It was the second night in a row,  and after what felt like a million baths, a million loads of laundry, and remaking his bed a million times, Greg and I were understandably worn out.  But, I was sure he'd snap out of it and jump out of bed bright and early the next morning to see what Santa had brought him.  Right?  Wrong.  I finally stumbled into his room at 8:15 and forced him to wake up so we could get the day going, which I paid for later.  Yes, he was thrilled when he saw all the presents under the tree but as the morning wore on he became quite the Mr. Crankypants once the lack of sleep caught up with him.  After going to Mimi and Papa's house for a late breakfast and more presents, we headed home for a long afternoon nap.  Luckily for us, he woke up rejuvenated and in much better spirits.  That night, Grammy came over for dinner and Greg took off with his parents for the first Thunder game of the season, so the day ended nicely for all of us.  (Minus some unfortunate tummy upset.)  I'm pretty sure Nicholas is in love with all of the presents Santa brought him because he had to sneak out of bed that night to give all of them one more kiss goodnight.

Even though it didn't go exactly as planned, Christmas was wonderful!  We have so many blessings and so many amazing things to be thankful for, which I will never take for granted.  And just a few more things to be thankful for - a visit from my brother and his family and my grandfather starting this afternoon and a visit from my Julie this weekend!  So there you have it.  I'm feeling better already!!

After Santa's visit.

Merry Christmas, everyone! We hope your holiday was filled with much love and special memories.

Christmas Eve Cookie Extravaganza

I have an amazing husband.  This practically goes without saying.  But I have to say it again because he blew me away this Christmas Eve when he decided to spend the day baking oodles of cookies with Nicholas.  Using the same recipes his mom used when he was a boy, he worked and slaved all afternoon to create a magnificent display of cookies and treats!  I even got in on some of the action and made a batch of Oreo balls.  I'm usually a bit of a clean freak, but I actually loved seeing my kitchen littered with mixing bowls, measuring spoons, and baking pans!  It was heavenly!  Now it's just a matter of finding someone to eat them all!

 The final products:

And of course, a plate of homemade cookies just for Santa!

Oh, I almost forgot!  I wanted to share one more picture of Chippy before we had to send him back to the North Pole. Nicholas was really upset that he had to go but I promised he would be back next year to visit us again. And Chippy must have wanted to go out with a bang because we found him hanging from the chandelier on his last morning with us. Crazy Chippy.
