We've learned to say "no". Since it's new, we still find it very cute. Ask us again in about a month and I bet we have a different answer!

Jilly Bean Turns 1!!!!
We spent the weekend in Dallas celebrating the monumental first birthday of our niece, Jillian! She had a birthday party on Saturday with lots of friends and a very delicious (and beautiful) homemade birthday cake. Nicholas had so much fun playing with the kids and watching all the festivities going on around him. It was an awesome weekend but very exhausting. The second we got home we dropped our bags down and all 3 hopped in bed for a long nap!

No, this is not Nicholas in baby jail. He actually wanted to be there. In fact, he spent most of his time hanging out on the stairs.

This was Jillian's present from Mimi & Grandpa. Nicholas thought it was way cool, except when he got wet sand all over his hands. He DID NOT like that one bit! He's kind of particular like his Mommy.

And a little video of him enjoying cake and ice cream with Grandpa. Man, did he lick that spoon clean!

Check out my new hat!
The weather warmed up today and we were finally able to get outside for a little bit. I think Nicholas got to play in his playhouse about 3 times before the weather got nasty and we've all been suffering from a little cabin fever. Yuck! I got this new hat for him yesterday and he surprisingly wore it for me with no objections. Doesn't it make him look older??

Another day in the life...
There just hasn't been much going on around here lately but I was starting to get complaints that I was slacking on my posts. So, here are a few pictures of the fabulous Mr. Nicholas hanging out in his new favorite spot. We're not too thrilled that he loves sitting on top of the coffee table but I keep hearing this voice in my head quietly saying "pick your battles". I guess it's not hurting anything and it will soon pass just like all his other phases.

And then we have Daddy's very cool new deer blind that he got for Christmas. He and Nicholas have been practicing their hunting in the living room!

"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
Our world has changed dramatically in the last 48 hours. Two nights ago, Nicholas finally mastered the skill of crib escape. He's done it before but with the mattress now on the lowest setting, the crib is officially obsolete. No more security for Mommy and Daddy. No more peace of mind knowing he's safe and sound in his wooden fortress. The first night was really rough because he was just so proud of himself! I tried a hundred different methods of getting him to stop climbing out but the night ended with me sleeping on the floor next to his crib so I could intercept his attempts. So, the decision was quickly made to switch the crib to a full size bed in order to protect him from a fall. This is a picture of our temporary fix while we wait for the bed rails we ordered. As soon as he saw his new big boy bed his eyes lit up! We had a good long talk before bedtime and I explained all the rules and regulations of sleeping without walls. Although I was fully prepared for another rough night, he didn't get up one time! I was very pleasantly surprised and extremely proud of him. My fingers are still crossed for the next few nights to come. Pray for us!!! :-)

It's Been a Long Day
I was trying to capture some video this evening of Nicholas riding his beloved tricycle but I got this pitiful moment instead. I'm thinking he was tired but I'm really not sure exactly what was wrong. He's still trying to get well from a really bad cold so he's been a little worn out lately. Whatever the reason, it was too cute not to share.

Christmas Finale
Happy New Year!! Last night we finally got to have Christmas with Grandma & Grandpa Hawkins. We also ate a wonderful New Year's meal, complete with black eyed peas. Nicholas has been sick the last few days but he held up like a real trouper and managed the strength to open all his presents. :-) He got lots of special ones but I think I can safely say his heart belonged to his new tricycle. He is obsessed with it and he cried through his entire dinner because all he wanted to do was ride like the wind. He now no longer walks around the house, he rides.....everywhere. In fact, he woke up this morning at 5:30 with a coughing attack and when I got him up to give him some medicine he jumped on and started cruising. Thank you Grandma & Grandpa for such a wonderful Christmas!

I'm sad to see this holiday season go because it's my favorite time of year. Especially now that we have this awesome little boy to share it with. But the Jaggi's are on to a new year and making more great memories!
